Before the tent

The prep sheet, in plain steps

Your own sheet may add or drop items for your house. These are the steps nearly every tent job has.

  • Seven to five days out

    • Confirm the date and how many nights to plan for

    • Line up somewhere to stay for the household, pets included

    • Tell neighbors in attached homes; HOAs get our notice

    • Ask the office about the gas shut-off, if your sheet says it applies

  • Three days out

    • Trim shrubs and vines back from the walls

    • Rake mulch and ground cover away from the foundation

    • Move cars, bikes and patio furniture away from the walls

    • Take down anything fastened to the roof or walls that your sheet lists

  • The day before

    • Bag food, drink and medicine that are not sealed in original containers, using the bags we supply

    • Take pets, houseplants and the fish tank out

    • Open every cabinet, drawer, closet and interior door

    • Unwrap mattresses and furniture covered in plastic

  • Set-up morning

    • Walk the house with the crew chief, room by room

    • Hand over the keys the crew will need

    • Turn off sprinklers aimed at the house

    • Take what you need for the nights away: chargers, medicines, pet food

After the tent goes on

While it works, and when you come back

  • While the house is closed

    • Nobody goes in, including you; a sign on each door says so

    • Call the office, not the house, with questions

    • We call you if the return time moves

  • When you come back

    • We remove the tent and open the house

    • We measure the air inside before we tell you it is clear

    • You hear it from us, in person or by phone; do not go in on your own

    • Your sheet lists anything to air out or wipe down
